Discover the Skoda Enyaq RS Race: A Lighter, High-Performance SUV Shedding Over 300kg
Skoda Enyaq RS Race: The Electric SUV Ready for Tarmac Rally
Rally stages are typically dominated by small, powerful cars, but Skoda is changing the game with the introduction of the Enyaq RS Race. This electric SUV is designed to shine on tarmac rallies, offering a unique blend of power and agility.
The Enyaq RS Race is essentially a Coupe vRS with a significant weight reduction. By shedding around 316kg, it now weighs just under two tonnes. This weight loss, combined with its 335bhp dual-motor powertrain and 82kWh battery, results in an impressive sub-five-second 0-62mph time.
This weight reduction is achieved through the use of sustainable biocomposite materials developed in partnership with Bcomp. These materials not only enhance the Enyaq RS’s speed and agility but also serve as a testbed for future Skoda products.
The new body kit, including the wheel arches and rear wing, is made from these biocomposites. The conventional side window panels are replaced with polycarbonate, and the panoramic roof is removed in favor of more biocomposite materials. The exterior also features darker light signatures, a new LED strip, low-profile tires, and beefed-up skid plates, along with vinyls and decals to distinguish it from the standard Enyaq.
Mechanically, the RS is equipped with new shock absorbers, springs, and a revised steering system for linear and adjustable weights. It also boasts carbon ceramic brakes, emphasizing its racing capabilities.
Inside, the Enyaq RS Race is fitted with a high-strength chrome-molybdenum steel roll cage, racing seats with six-point belts, and a fire extinguisher. A hydraulic handbrake and pedals from a Fabia RS Rally2 car add to its rally-ready features. The revised infotainment system includes a new sound system that enhances artificial sound inside the cabin, activated at speeds as low as 18mph.
While Skoda has not yet announced if the Enyaq RS Race will compete in rallies, its design and features certainly make it a contender to watch.
