2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron: Does It Still Hold Its Ground?
The crossover previously known as the Audi E-Tron boasts significant upgrades along with its new name. But does it remain competitive?
Amid the current challenges facing the Volkswagen Group, one aspect that stands out is the remarkable improvement in their electric vehicles with each new generation. The updated Volkswagen ID.4 is better than ever, the latest electric Porsches are world-class, and brands like Skoda and SEAT are producing highly desirable models.
Audi, a pioneer in the electric vehicle space with the original E-Tron crossover, has also made significant strides. The E-Tron, which debuted before the Tesla Model Y, received a major upgrade last year and was renamed to fit Audi’s new naming scheme: the Q8 E-Tron and Q8 E-Tron Sportback.
However, the electric vehicle market evolves rapidly. Unlike the all-new Q6 E-Tron, which is built on a revolutionary all-electric platform, the Q8 E-Tron still uses a platform adapted from gas cars. Demand for the Q8 E-Tron has declined recently, raising questions about its relevance despite its improvements.
The Q8 E-Tron, available in standard and Sportback forms, features a 114 kWh battery, all-wheel drive, up to 285 miles of range, and 170 kW fast charging. While it has strengths, it faces tough competition from newer models like the Q6 E-Tron, which offers more advanced technology and faster charging.
Despite these challenges, the Q8 E-Tron remains a sharp-looking vehicle with a sleek, modern interior and impressive handling. Audi’s dual charging ports add flexibility, allowing for easier home charging setup. While its DC fast charging times may not be the best, the Q8 E-Tron still gets the job done.
